What does need attention is the river corridor, since the Musconetcong is a federally designated Wild and Scenic river and stretches of the bank are preserved land with their own access rules. Properties in this area sell on land, outbuildings, and privacy, and a still photo from the driveway communicates none of it. An aerial pull-back shows acreage, how the parcel sits against the river or the slope, and where the barns and fencing actually are. For the older stone and frame houses common in the village, a rising shot along the roofline reads far better than a straight-on exterior.

Mid-October through early November is the best it gets. The Musconetcong valley funnels color, the hardwoods on the slope above the mill turn hard, and low autumn sun coming down the valley lights the stone buildings warmly in the last two hours of the day. Spring is the other good window, particularly late April, when the river runs high and loud over the dam and the hills go pale green. Winter suits architectural and listing work, since bare trees expose the buildings. Midsummer is the one to skip, when heavy canopy hides the village and haze softens the ridgeline.
